University of

Texas
and Chitika, says that the top 50,000 bloggers online generate about $50 million in the year 2006. And most of the money was earned by top bloggers. Here is the break of the study.

The top 1% accounted for approximately 20% of the total revenue. The top 5% accounted for approximately 50% of the total revenue. The top 10% accounted for approximately 80% of the total revenue. The top 15% accounted for approximately 90% of the total revenue. 

So making money online is still possible. As the study shows above blogging revenue are mostly from advertisement placed on these blogs. The more traffic your blog is gets the more revenue you would be able to get.
